In Slavic mythology, the fir tree is a protector against evil and has always been associated with various winter customs. It is therefore not surprising that it was chosen as a Christmas tree, even though this type of use is relatively recent in our region.
What distinguishes our SILVER FIR Essential Oil from other essential oils is its clean scent, which is the result of the consistency with which the cones are harvested. In conventional production distillations, the large ends of the fir branches are usually harvested. The whole branches are then crushed into 3-4 cm pieces using mechanical branch crushers. This produces a fairly compact mass, which, apart from the needles, also contains a lot of crushed fir wood. The thicker branches are not extracted in order to make the process as efficient as possible. This saves a great deal of time, but the quality of the pulp that is distilled is much lower. This essential oil usually has a very woody and rough smell.
In our case, only the flexible green ends of the twigs are harvested by hand, and any thicker twigs are discarded. The tops are then cut by hand into 4-5 cm pieces. The resulting distillation paste has very few woody particles, being dominated by the needles and the green ends of the twigs. The resulting essential oil therefore does not have a harsh woody smell.
The essential oil is mainly found in the needles, but some is also found in the young cones. SILVER FIR Essential Oil is also known as a forest healer, as it is quite versatile. It is found in 0.5-1.0% in the twigs. The colour of the oil is pale yellow. It oxidises quickly, so it is recommended to keep it well sealed and in a cool place.
The smell of fir trees is unmistakably associated with the Christmas spirit in our memories. It is balsamic and very refreshing. A room scented with fir essential oil gives a pleasant feeling of freshness and a walk in the woods. It disinfects and refreshes the room, which is especially recommended during seasonal infections.
