We pick immortelle by hand in Dalmatia. Some say that Dalmatian immortelle is even better than the famous type from Corsica. When it blooms, which is usually in June, whole fields in Dalmatia are covered with it. They literally glow with golden yellow color.<\/p>\n
Immortelle is also called curry, mainly due to its smell which indeed resembles that of curry. Because of its bitter-sweet taste it used to be exploited as a substitute for hops in the beer production. In Sardinia it remains to be used for aromatizing beverages and the preparation of liqueurs. Its regenerative abilities have long been praised. Flowers keep shape and color even long after they had been harvested. When immortelle was discovered by the cosmetics giant L’Occitane, it soon became, with the help of an efficient marketing, plant no. 1 in antiaging cosmetics.<\/p>\n
Essential oil in the plant is rather scarce, 0.1 – 0.5%. The quantity depends very much on the time of the harvesting. The oil color is pale green-yellowish.<\/p>\n
The scent of immortelle is very aromatic, complex, provocative and warm. It could be described as a mixture of hay, meadows and honey. Depending on the site and origins, the scent can vary, sometimes so much that one could not say that it comes from the same plant.
